The College of Engineering does not manage its own high performance computing infrastructure. Instead, we work with central HPC services at ISU to ensure that tools and resources needed by Engineering researchers and students are available on the HPC infrastructure.
There are 3 main HPC clusters on campus:
Condo – This is the most recent HPC cluster and is used mainly by researchers. Most researcher users pay for an allocation of CPU and storage that they think they will need. However, a “free tier” of compute nodes and modest storage capacity is available for researchers who can’t yet afford to “buy in” to Condo.
Cyence – This cluster is somewhat older technology than Condo, though it still gets a lot of use. It is used by researchers.
HPC-class – This is the “class” cluster and it used primarily by students enrolled in classes that need access to high performance computing capabilities.
However, all three clusters are installed with essentially the same software. All three clusters are installed with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7). A fairly large set of software is available on each including a number of packages relevant to Engineering.
More details about these clusters can be found at http://www.hpc.iastate.edu
